These 13 principles represent the foundation of the Toolkit and the lens through which we look at its practical implementation. This set of principles is not presented as a fixed or flawless blueprint, but as a constellation of values we strive toward. It is a living, evolving framework that reflects our ongoing, collective effort to learn, while remaining open to growth , contradiction, and adaptation.
Rather than offering a ‘perfect recipe’ to be handed down to others, these principles also reflect the different challenges we have experienced first-hand in their application, along with some practical strategies or wishes on how to overcome those challenges in the future. As a result, these Principles are not to be regarded as rigid instructions, but rather aspirational touchstones.
Importantly, these principles interconnect and often overlap. This repetition is not accidental, it mirrors the complexity of lived experiences and the multiple entry points through which change can happen.
Each Principle is presented here with a set of Suggested Applications. These serve as an introduction to the practices that are further expanded in the 6 Resources sections.
